What is Disc Golf?
Disc Golf is simply the act of throwing a disc or frisbee into a basket (or as close to it as possible) from a designated tee area in as few throws as possible. Strikingly similar to regular golf, but no clubs needed which makes disc golf for beginners even easier than regular ball golf!
Beyond this general definition, what disc golf is to everyone who plays is something different. Some people use disc golf as their excuse to enjoy the outdoors or to help reach their goals to stay active. All ages can play and enjoy disc golf. Taking up disc golf for beginners is a great way to spend time with the whole family. Matter of fact, some of the best disc golfers in the world are still in High School. As the sport grows the youth movement is unbelievable and very exciting for the future of disc golf around the world.
It’s as easy as grabbing a disc and hitting your own backyard or nearby park. Traditionally, a disc golf team includes four players, but you don’t have to have a team together to get going. Grab a bucket and a few different discs then start off by throwing them around. Pay attention to how they feel to throw, each golf discs speed, fade, and unique traits come in handy depending on the distance and difficulty of the basket you’re trying to make.
Of course, if you want to expand beyond your backyard and jump right into it, there are disc golf courses all over the country that are easy to find with a quick google search. Thanks to the sport exploding in popularity over recent years, more and more disc golf courses are popping up.
The easiest way to make sure you’ve got a good starter set is to get a beginner pack such as the Streamline Starter pack you can find here.
